What is a decorative candle?
The UK candle market has seen immense demand for unique decorative candles since the start of the Covid lockdown. The range of designs is unlimited and includes pretty decorative pillar candles, bubble candles, shell candles, printed candles, heart candles, angel candles, rose candles, flower candles and many more.
Can you burn decorative candles?
Decorative candles are as the name implies, a decorative piece. Some people like to use them as an ornamental feature whilst others choose to burn them and create a wonderful aromatic ambience. If you choose to use your candle as an ornament, make sure you dust it down occasionally with a feather duster or a soft cloth. If you should decide to burn it, make sure to place it on a dish to catch the dripping wax. You may also want to melt the base of an unsteady candle for a few seconds in order to help secure it to a dish. That said, some do already come in a decorative candle holder or decorative candle jar.
How long do decorative candles burn for?
Please be aware that not all candles burn evenly. They are primarily designed with an aesthetic appeal rather than an even burn. Consequently, some candles such as pillar design will use almost all the wax as the wick burns down the column. Other designs such as a bubble candle or a shell will not burn evenly as the flame is not within equal distance of the surrounding wax. This can result in a partial collapse of the candle structure. This is nothing to be worried about, but you do need to make sure the candle is unlikely to set fire to the surroundings. On that point, you should never leave a burning candle unattended. Candles have different burn times depending on the type of wax used and the wick. Pillar design candles tend to burn for longer than fancy shapes as they generally burn through all the wax. A fancy design is less likely to burn all the wax and can even last for as little as just a few hours. Many people purchase decorative candles for their ornamental effect and therefore get just as many hours of pleasure as somebody purchasing and immediately burning a candle in a jar.
Are decorative or ornamental candles scented?
Decorative candles can be scented. It’s purely down to the manufacturers choice of whether to add scent or not. Many are created using dupe scents. That means they smell very similar to popular perfumes and scents but are not an exact match. If used as an ornament, the scent won’t make any real difference. However, if you decide to burn the candle, the scent should release a wonderful aroma into the room. If you do burn the candle and the candle came in a decorative candle holder, you may be able to repurpose the candle holder.
